Citizen involvement in their communities helps police to solve crime. Without the help of the citizenry, criminals have an easier time getting away with the crimes they commit. Criminals will attempt to find neighborhoods that do not appear cared for. They will also seek neighborhoods that allow them easy access without being noticed by watchful citizens.
As the most visible and easily accessed entity of the government, people turn to the Police Department not only for law enforcement purposes, but many other community services. The Community Service Unit, in the sprit of community oriented policing, serves as central location for the coordination of law enforcement/community activities and a means of referral for members of the community to other agencies
The Community Service Unit provides education, organization and coordination of police community activities and evaluates and revises these activates in order to establish, maintain, and improve the quality of life in the Town of Bladensburg
The Community Service Unit was created to provide education, organization, and coordination of police and community activities to improve the quality of life for the residents of Bladensburg in the spirit of community oriented policing.
Programs currently underway include: Neighborhood Watch, Safety Saturday, Operation ID, Child Fingerprinting, Proper use of 9-1-1, Officer friendly, Quarterly Public safety meetings, and security surveys.
